Two Ways To Support Your Immune System

The coronavirus is all over the news, and the stats seem to get worse each day. Similar to SARS, it’s categorized as moderately contagious. As you know, antibiotics cannot treat the virus. Fortunately, there are simple, proven steps you can take to protect yourself. Read on for our prevention AND treatment suggestions.

We don’t yet know for sure how dangerous the coronavirus will prove to be, but the fatality rate is thought to be 2%, much lower than the SARS virus. Most people who get it will recover much like other colds and flus. People over 60y.o and with compromised immune systems are most at risk for more serious symptoms.

Symptoms can be as mild as a cough or as severe as a fever or shortness of breath. Symptoms may not show for 2-14 days or more, easily going undetected, but in general the coronavirus family has a short incubation period of 5 days, and the Wuhan cases are consistent with this.

The coronavirus spreads from person-to-person in close proximity, similar to other respiratory illnesses. Primarily spread through coughing and sneezing, the droplets can travel several feet and stay suspended for minutes. So how can you protect yourself?

Recommendations to avoid contracting the Coronavirus:

1. Wash hands regularly with hot soapy water or alcohol-based hand rub.

2. Avoid touching your face or eyes.

3. Avoid close contact with sick people with cough or fever, especially if they have recently traveled.

4. Use coughing and sneezing etiquette, covering your nose and mouth.

5. Keep objects and surfaces in your home or workspace clean and disinfected.

PREVENTATIVE measures you can take by receiving treatments here at the Acupuncture and Wellness Clinic

At the clinic I will:

1. Develop an acupuncture treatment plan that enhances your current state of health; and

2. Prescribe herbs that do the following :

  • elevate immune system

  • strengthen digestion

  • strengthen breathing

  • maintain strength of mind and clear toxins (as stress and toxins like alcohol is known to weaken immunity)

The herbal formula sold at the clinic is Yu Ping Feng San as the natural and effective way to boost immunity. This herbal formula is comprised of three simple yet powerful herbs that boost the immune system, including the trendy Astragalus Root, which is considered the best immune tonic herb in stabilizing and strengthening the protective ‘Qi’ in your body.

3 reasons to always keep Yu Ping Feng San on hand:

1) When people around you are sick

Whether it’s kids or co-workers, there’s nothing worse than hearing people coughing around you.

2) At the first sign your immune system is weak

You know that moment when you feel like you might be getting a cold?  You're a little extra tired, your throat starts to feel tight, your head feels a little stuffy, and things just feel off. This is the time you need to have Immunity Support in your medicine cabinet!

3) When getting on a plane or travel in general

Airplanes are germ factories.  When was the last time the seat was sanitized?  Not to mention all of that recycled air and close quarters with 200 strangers. In fact, according to an article last fall in the Wall Street Journal*, "medical studies have shown that air travelers face higher rates of infection [than non-travelers]: one study pegged the increased risk of catching a cold at 20%". It only makes sense that people are desperate to protect themselves to stay healthy - but next time you think about reaching for that Vitamin C packet, think about these three natural, powerful herbs that people have been using for preventative health for hundreds of years.
